The Beekeeper
A journey from curiosity to caring for the bees
Kristina’s Story
My love for bees began quietly, as many meaningful things do — as a simple hobby. What started with curiosity soon grew into something deeper. Watching these remarkable little creatures at work sparked an intrigue that has stayed with me ever since: how something so small can have such an enormous impact on our planet, our food systems, and even our health.
For over 20 years, I worked in the construction and property industry. It was a career built on structure, deadlines, and long hours — rewarding in its own way, but far removed from nature. When redundancy arrived, it brought unexpected change. I found myself in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, facing a new chapter and, for the first time in years, the space to reflect on what truly mattered.
That moment became a turning point!
I saw an opportunity to turn my long-held commitment to sustainability into something genuinely meaningful. My office became the garden. My colleagues became the bees. And my daily routine shifted from meetings to hives.
"Used across cultures for centuries, these natural remedies represent a deep connection between humans and the hive."
Beekeeping taught me patience, respect for nature, and the importance of stewardship. Bees don’t rush — they follow time-honoured patterns that have existed for thousands of years. Working alongside them has reshaped how I view life, work, and community. They remind me daily that progress doesn’t always mean moving faster; sometimes it means returning to what we’ve always known
As my journey continued, my curiosity expanded beyond sustainability into apitherapy — the traditional use of bee products such as honey, propolis, pollen, royal jelly, and venom for wellbeing. Used across cultures for centuries, these natural remedies represent a deep connection between humans and the hive.
The Heart of Our Work
Honey, in particular, fascinates me. Far more than a sweetener, it carries powerful antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. From soothing sore throats to supporting wound healing, it has long been valued as nature’s medicine cabinet. Modern research continues to uncover what ancient traditions already understood: that the hive offers extraordinary gifts when treated with respect and care.
Learning about apitherapy with the world renowned Dr Stefan Stangaciu President of the International Federation of Apitherapy and becoming a member of the British and Irish Apitherapy Network, has opened my eyes to the scientific and therapeutic potential of apitherapy, reinforcing the importance of preserving traditional knowledge while advancing modern research and practice. It’s a reminder that wellbeing doesn’t always come from laboratories and factories — sometimes it comes from nature.
A Philosophy Rooted in Balance
Education and collaboration sit at the heart of everything I do. I believe knowledge grows best when it’s shared.
At its core, my work is about balance — between people and nature, tradition and innovation, learning and doing.
Bees have given me far more than honey. They’ve given me a new perspective, and a renewed sense of connection to nature. Every hive tells a story of cooperation, resilience, and quiet dedication.
The journey began with curiosity and It grew into passion.
Every jar of honey, apitherapy product and every wellness session is a reflection of our commitment to stewardship, tradition, and authenticity. We combine ancient knowledge with modern understanding, creating a calm, restorative experience that reconnects you with nature and honours the quiet intelligence of the hive.
Beeconscious is more than a therapy practice — it is a working apiary, a source of sustainable local honey, and a sanctuary where wellbeing begins with the bees.
